This book is a nice and easy read. The training method the author prefers is positive reinforcement where the trainer uses rewards to elicit a (correct) response from the dog.The main training instruments used in this process are a dog clicker (although verbal commands are also provided), treats (something or some action your dog likes) and an understanding of this dog training methodology.
There are a number of commands that form key training outcomes for your dog in this book. They are stay, come, drop, go to bed, lay down and sit. There are others but these seem to be the core focus. This info is important if you are trying to work out whether to buy this on a basis of specific commands you'd like your dog to obey. As a side point to this, even though there are specific training outcomes, it still felt more like a holistic approach that would also benefit dog owners that are looking for a smoother training process or to at least better understand training psychology.
You can't fault the text, it is very well written and easy to understand. The author breaks down each command into a number of specific steps that are remarkably easy to follow. Along the way the author writes expected outcomes during each stage and offers advice on overcoming specific difficulties. This is incredibly useful as when I read it, it felt like the author was standing right next to me, commenting on my dog. Each stage needs to be addressed properly before going on to the next.
This is a very handy and well written book and comes from someone that is very passionate about dogs. 5 stars.

Good basic training for dogs. Not everything I expected, but has all of the standard commands/behaviors most dog owners want to train their dog to do. I love that it is positive reinforcement training. As anyone who has taken psych 101 knows, that leads to faster and more permanent behavioral training than negative reinforcement.
We have a one year old Papillon. Need I say more? He is very intelligent but hard to train. I have trained many dogs using the choke collar and age old obedience techniques. This has worked wonders in just a few training sessions. My Papillon wants to trainnow, he gets so excited when he sees the clicker. I truly can't believe the success in only a week of training.
Book was alright but unrealistic. Like too many books nowadays 14 days to a well behaved dog uses the promise of quick results to lure you into a purchase. At he end of the day 14 days is not enough time to train a dog.
For optimum result expect longer than 14 days.
First time pet owner here. This book has worked perfectly. For the first 7 days I followed the book perfectly and have had instant results. I've been lazy on the second half so I can't vouch for that yet, BUT my puppy is responding wonderfully. I started when he was 12 weeks old and within a week he has learned, Sit, Down, Come, and Stay. It's actually quite fun to show off to the other pet owners in the building that a tiny puppy can be so well trained!
Only con for me is that it's rather poorly copied to a digital format. Tons of typos in the kindle version, but still easily understandable.
I have a 3 1/2 month old german shepherd puppy. I had tried many different training books and videos, nothing worked for my stubborn dog. I decided to give this a try out of sheer desperation. I realize that my pup is still very young, but I could not get him to listen until I purchased this book and followed the directions. Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled with the results. My husband has even commented on what a huge difference there is in my puppy. We couldn't be happier. I would recommend all dog owners buy this book.
I got this after trying one of Cesar Millan's training books which was very disappointing. This book is much simpler. The instructions are very clearly and simply laid out. I have been able to train my Yorkie puppy a few commands through chapter 4. I do feel that it's difficult to use these training methods on a very young puppy such as mine because of her attention span and hyper energy level. For this reason it is obviously taking longer than 14 days to train her. However I am pleased enough and will keep going through the book until I finish it. Hopefully by then I will have a very well-trained dog.
Simple, direct instructions for basic dog training. This method worked on an untrained 2 year old dog we got from the pound who had been in a cage for 5 months. She was out of control when we got her and after a week she was focused and alert. This is the first dog training book I have read that actually makes sense.
