Charming, poignant, and sexy, When You Got a Good Thing pulled me in with its sweet charm and deft storytelling, and didn't let go until the very last page. It has everything I love in a small-town romance! ~USA Today Best-Selling Author Tawna Fenske
She thought she could never go home again. Kennedy Reynolds has spent the past decade traveling the world as a free spirit. She never looks back at the past, the place, or the love she left behind—until her adopted mother’s unexpected death forces her home to Eden’s Ridge, Tennessee.
Deputy Xander Kincaid has never forgotten his first love. He’s spent ten long years waiting for the chance to make up for one bone-headed mistake that sent her running. Now that she’s finally home, he wants to give her so much more than just an apology.
Kennedy finds an unexpected ally in Xander, as she struggles to mend fences with her sisters and to care for the foster child her mother left behind. Falling back into his arms is beyond tempting, but accepting his support is dangerous. He can never know the truth about why she really left. Will Kennedy be able to bury the past and carve out her place in the Ridge, or will her secret destroy her second chance?
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Q What makes the Misfit Inn series special?
The Misfit Inn is a quartet of southern romance novels focused on the family saga of the Reynolds sisters and the loves they find along the way, as they come back together as a family after the death of their mother, proving that the family you make is stronger than the one you're born into. Just like my Wishful series, The Misfit Inn quartet is intended to highlight everything that I love about living in the small town South--all the quirks, foibles, and dreams that provide a fabulous backdrop to contemporary romances about stubborn, independent women and the men who love them.
Q Who would dig these books?
The Misfit Inn is a southern romance series written for anyone looking for family saga romance, where you get to follow the loves of each member of a generation. This quartet explores the relationships between sisters and what the bonds of family truly mean. Many of my readers also enjoy the books of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Kristan Higgins, Melanie Shawn, Ava Miles, and Jill Shalvis.

A stand alone read with a HEA. More books coming as the side characters get their own books. I really enjoyed this read. A woman has opened her home to foster children. She has had a lot of children pass through her doors. She wanted to give them a place of acceptance and love and she accomplished that. The last 4 girls she adopted and they became sisters. They all had issues but knew they were loved and had a home forever. One daughter, somewhat of a wild child leaves home rather sudden and escapes to Europe. She travels around for about 10 years. She wants to go home but she can't. But then the dreaded phone call comes and her mother has passed. Now she is determined to go home regardless. At home she must face her sisters wrath for leaving and abandoning her family, as well as the whole town and everyone in it wanting to know what happened, No one wants to know more than the boy now a man she left behind. he loved her and he knew she loved him yet she left without a word. There are a few secrets in this family that need to be exposed. The love story is a good one. I loved the hero. He was a great guy and was determined to get her back. Ten years and nothing has changed for him. He loves her and he wants her. A very good story. Very entertaining and some lessons to learn along the way. Forgiveness being a big one. I definitely recommend this story. A good read.

When You Got A Good Thing The Misfit Inn Book 1 edition by Kait Nolan The Forge Book Finishing Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Kait Nolan is an author who has really grown on me over the past couple years. The first book I read because it was free, To Get Me To You kind of sucked me into her love of small town southern romances and I try to pick up one whenever I get a chance. So when I came across a new series, The Misfit Inn, how could I resist?
Throw in a second chance love, a hot cop and a town full of nosy but lovable meddlers and I was halfway in love as I got started.
Kennedy and Xander were high school sweethearts with dreams of seeing the world together. Then one night she packed up and left town without him. For ten years. Of course there’s a lot more to the story than that but I’ll let you find out the nitty gritty details for yourself.
When Kennedy comes back from a decade of traveling she has a lot of mending to do and it’s an uphill battle but in true wanderer spirit, she digs right in and begins helping out where she can, snarky comments be damned. What I loved most about this story was Xander, aside from one small moment he was so kind and supportive. Considering what everyone thinks she did to him, it showed that he was worthy of all the love she’d saved for him and all the sacrifices she’d made on his behalf. He is the Pacey Witter of book boyfriends as far as I’m concerned.
This story had plenty of ups and downs, a pretty clear villain and a wonderful woman I wish we’d gotten to spend some time with before she died.
When You Got A Good Thing is a quick read but it’s by no means ‘fluff’. This is a well developed story with plenty of layers that include dealing with a fractured family, a long lost love and starting over in the only place that had ever been home. I really enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward to dive into the rest of The Misfit Inn…even Athena’s story.
Kait Nolan books always leave me with a good feeling of hope; that things in my life also can have a positive outcome. Having spent my childhood and early adulthood in a small community, many of the way her characters behave, strike a chord, they seem familiar.
The story line is often one where some sort of misunderstanding, poor communication, or even lies have caused decent people heartache.
Don't many of us look back and think about things that just might have been different if only we... had had courage, sense, maturity, whatever, at that time then, when we now look back and see that life took an important turn.
In Kait Nolan's stories we can vicariously experience meeting /reconnecting with our significant other.
In this tale two childhood sweethearts got cruelly separated but after several years of hard work and maturing into adults, get their HEA.
Kait Nolan is a new to me author but she's one I will be reading more from! When You Got A Good Thing is the story of Xander & Kennedy, high school lovers torn apart & kept apart by lies & deceit. Kennedy has been traveling Europe for years, taking different jobs to pay her way. She doesn't trust easily. Everyone she loves & trusts has hurt her by leaving, not believing her or not standing up for her except her adoptive mother. She was bartending in Ireland when she received a call regarding a tragedy in her family. Can she gain back their confidence without detailing why she left? Is the threat gone?
Xander can't believe she's back. She's finally come back to her family, not to him. He blew that when she felt she had to sneak away in the dead of night leaving her family & him behind. She got back in touch with her family but hasn't been home in 10 years. His heart stopped when he saw her again. Could they at least be friends again?
Kait Nolan has written a series about 4 adopted girls & the family they made. I was drawn into the story immediately & couldn't stop reading until the last page. The author managed to get me to feel every emotion with Kennedy - fear, grief, anger, sorrow. When the mother dies, the girls band together to save the house & its legacy. Theses strong women each have their own heartbreaking stories about life before their foster mother adopted them & their life since. These women are heartbreaking & damaged with what they've gone through. They each have their own strengths & personalities that pull them together but also push them apart. They don't think before they speak & so their words can hurt. However, their actions show their love the loudest. This was a great book!
